Blue Mosque
Directly across from the Hagia Sofia, stands the stunning Blue Mosque. Said to have been built as Islam's answer to the beauty of the Byzantine church, the Blue Mosque certainly nails first impressions.
As a former Fulbright Fellow and graduate of the University of Michigan, I take my research seriously. I don't like unturned rocks, especially when it comes to my favorite field of study: Arab and Islamic Studies. My studies have sent me all over the Middle East--spending extensive time in the West Bank and Egypt--and my work with the National Democratic Institute has given me the opportunity to return on numerous occasions.
